Tia moved with her mother to America when she was one year old in 1988. Tanaka and her mother briefly lived in New York before eventually settling in Long Beach, California. Tia attended high school with fellow porn starlet Kitty, who encouraged her to pursue a career in the adult film industry. Tanaka first began performing in explicit hardcore movies at age 18 in 2005. Tia won the Adam Film Award for Best Asian Starlet in 2007. In 2006 Tanaka went to college to acquire a degree in psychology. She has a pierced navel and a tattoo of a large dragon on her back. Moreover, Tia is an avid reader and has three siblings. Tanaka retired from the adult film industry in 2008 and now primarily works as a model for various adult websites. Although she's adopted a Japanese last name as her stage name, she's actually 3/4 Vietnamese and 1/4 French.
