J. Karthik
**Karthik Jayaram** (born 1 May 1979), popularly known by his screen name **JK**, is an Indian actor who works predominantly in Kannada television and cinema, alongside notable appearances in Hindi television and films. Celebrated for his athletic build, commanding height, and versatile screen presence, he has made a distinct mark as both a leading man and a powerful antagonist. Born in Koppa in the Chikkamagaluru district of Karnataka, Karthik grew up in Bengaluru. Before venturing into entertainment, he completed his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from BIT Bengaluru and worked as a structural engineer for several years. His athletic physique also led him into competitive cricket, where he became a key player and fast bowler for the Karnataka Bulldozers in the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL), an arena that brought him substantial early visibility among sports and cinema audiences. Karthik began his acting career with supporting and antagonistic roles in Kannada films during the early 2010s, appearing in titles such as *Kempe Gowda* (2011), *Vishnuvardhana* (2011), and *Varadanayaka* (2013). However, he achieved astronomical household stardom through Kannada television when he took on the titular role of superstar Jayakranth in the mega-hit daily serial *Ashwini Nakshatra* (2013 to 2015). The serial turned him into an overnight cultural sensation, earned him the affectionate moniker "JK," and made him one of the most celebrated leading men on the regional small screen. Capitalizing on his television success, he seamlessly crossed language boundaries into national television. He won widespread national acclaim for his imposing and nuanced portrayal of the demon king Ravana in Star Plus's mythological epic *Siya Ke Ram* (2015 to 2016). His performance earned him recognition across India for humanizing the complex mythological figure with gravitas and elegance. In 2017, he further expanded his public profile by participating as a finalist in the reality show *Bigg Boss Kannada Season 5*. Returning to feature films as a leading actor, Karthik has taken on varied roles across suspense, action, and horror genres. His prominent film credits include the supernatural mystery thriller *Aa Karaala Ratri* (2018), directed by Dayal Padmanabhan, which won him critical acclaim, alongside films such as *Just Love* (2014), *Chandrika* (2015), *Puta 109* (2018), *O Pushpa I Hate Tears* (2020), and *Iravan* (2023). Balancing television, OTT projects, and regional cinema, he remains a popular and dynamic talent in the Kannada entertainment industry.
